From 20 to 23 May 2025, the Kainuu Wellbeing Services County (KAHY) will host the first Finnish trial of the TEMA project, a European Union-funded initiative aimed at transforming how authorities manage natural disasters using cutting-edge technology.
The stunning landscapes of Sardinia became the staging ground for cutting-edge disaster response earlier this month as ITA EU MODEX 2025 brought together Europe's elite civil protection firefighting teams. From April 7-11, this EU-funded exercise transformed the island's forests into a laboratory for tackling one of the continent's most pressing threats: catastrophic wildfires.
In 17-20 March 2025, several TEMA partners gathered at the German Aerospace Center (German: DLR) campus in Oberpfaffenhofen, near Munich. This meeting helped each TEMA partner test their components working in real time for historical forest fire and flood scenarios.

The two-year mark of the TEMA project represents the half-way point of the project. This is a good opportunity to reflect on the work completed so far, and to look towards the future. The project started out with the familiarisation of the end users with technology partners and vice-versa. The two groups represent two different communities of experts, each working in their own domain.
