On 26–27 March, the TEMA project was presented at the Fachtagung Katastrophenvorsorge 2025 in Berlin, Germany’s leading conference on disaster risk reduction which was co organized by the German Red Cross and supported by the Federal Foreign Office. This year’s theme, “From Climate Change to Crisis – Integrating Disaster Preparedness and Climate Action,” offered a fitting stage to showcase how TEMA is contributing to more anticipatory, data-driven, and coordinated emergency response.
The conference brought together national and international experts from civil protection agencies, humanitarian organizations, academia, and local authorities to discuss how climate change is increasing the intensity and complexity of natural hazards. TEMA’s work on real-time mapping, AI-driven prediction, and operational support tools directly reflects these challenges.
Synergy Between TEMA and the Conference
The strong thematic overlap between the conference and project TEMA’s approach was evident throughout the event. Sessions focused on anticipatory action, digital transformation, and cross-sector collaboration—key pillars of TEMA’s mission. The need for interoperable, real-time tools that support early warning and rapid response was a recurring theme, reinforcing the relevance of TEMA’s work.
TEMA Presentation and Conference Engagement
During the “Insights & Innovations” session, Margareta Mihalic Dogan from Bavarian Red Cross gave an overview of the system’s core components and objectives. The presentation focused on how TEMA integrates multi-source data—such as satellite imagery, drone footage, IoT sensors, and geo-social inputs—to support situational awareness and predictive modeling for floods and wildfires. The talk highlighted how TEMA’s tools are designed to enhance decision-making in real-time emergency contexts. The session sparked strong interest among civil protection agencies and local responders, particularly around the platform’s potential for improving coordination and preparedness.
A Step Forward
TEMA’s presence at the Katastrophenvorsorge 2025 conference not only highlighted the project’s technological progress but also helped strengthen connections with key stakeholders in Germany and beyond. The conference confirmed the growing demand for solutions like TEMA that bridge scientific innovation and practical disaster response—essential in today’s climate-driven crisis landscape.
